WAIPUKURAU JOCKEY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

With the Easter race meeting less than six weeks off, owners and trainers will shortly be making their plans and preparation with a view of being represented at one or more of the important fixtures which are to take place at this particularly busy racing period. The principal attraction in Hawkes Bay at Easter time will be the Waipukurau Jockey Clubs annual meeting, which is to be held on the club’s course on Easter Monday (April 5). The forthcoming gathering eclipses any previous meeting held by the Waipukurau J.C. in point of the value of the stake money offered, the club having allotted the sum of £l4lO for the eight events which are to claim attention. The liberality and enterprise of the club will assuredly be the means of inducing a large number of North Island owners to nominate their horses for this old-estab-lished and widely-popular turf fixture. Chief interest will be centred in the Waipukurau Handicap, of 26050v5., 1% miles, for which a good entry may be safely anticipated. The Flying Handicap, of 210sovs„ six furlongs, can be depended upon to induce a good class of sprinters, while an event that will be welcomed by own-

ers of juveniles is the Oringi Handicap, of 180sovs., five furlongs, for two-year-olds. The Ladies’ Handicap, of llOsovs., l l / 2 miles, in which the lady nominators of the placed horses will receive gold bracelet watches valued at 55, 35 and 20sovs. respectively, will constitute a special feature of the afternoon’s racing. The horses are to be ridden by gentlemen riders, while the minimum weight is 10.7. The Hack Handicap, of 16550v5.. 154 miles; Purimu Hack Handicap, of 16550v5., six furlongs; Hatuma Hack Handicap, of ISOsovs., five furlongs; and the Maiden Race, of 140sovs., seven furlongs, weight for age, for horses that have never won a race at the time of entry, complete a firstclass programme. Nominations for all events are due with the secretary, Mr. W. G. Nightingale, P.O. Box 118, Waipukurau, on Monday,- March 8, at 8 p.m.
