TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING. The recent meeting held by the Takapuna Jockey Club afforded striking evidence of the wide measure of popularity which that body enjoys with racing patrons. The sport provided at the spring gathering at Takapuna last month compared favourably with that to be witnessed at the leading metropolitan fixtures in the Dominion, the fields being particularly good, while the racing was exceptionally keen. The club’s summer meeting is to be held on January 29 and 31, and should result in the most successful gathering in the history of the club. On the opening day the Takapuna Cup Handicap, of lOOOsovs., iy 2 miles, will be decided, and the valuable stake attached to this muchcoveted event is certain to bring together a field of high quality from the leading North Island stables. The Stewards’ Handicap, of 45050v5., six furlongs, is another well-endowed event which should attract the best sprinters available, while the Calliope Handicap, of SOOsovs., for two-year-olds' five furlongs, can be expected

to induce a distinctly good field of juveniles. The Zealandia Handicap, of 25050v5., seven furlongs; Ferry Handicap, of 200sovs., five furlongs; Orewa Handicap Hurdles, of 25050v5., 1% miles; Hauraki Handicap Hurdles, of 200sovs., iy 2 miles, for horses that have not won an advertised hurdle race exceeding the value of 75sovs. at the time), and the Maiden Handicap, of 200sovs., seven furlongs (for horses that have not won an advertised fla + race of any description at the time of starting, complete the first day’s programme. The attractions provided on the second day give promise of some highclass racing. The Takapuna J.C. Handicap, of 700sovs., one mile 22 2 furlongs, should again see the majority of the Cup candidates in action, while the Anniversary Welter Handicap, of 45050v5., seven furlongs, is not likely to escape the attention o” owners of eligible horses. The other

second day events consist of the Suburban Handicap, of 25050v5., five furlongs; Hobson Handicap, of 25050v5., for two-year-olds, six furlongs; Waiwera Handicap Hurdles, of 25050v5., 1% miles; Takapuna Hack Hurdles, of 200sovs., iy 2 miles; Rangitoto Hack Handicap, of 200sovs., six furlongs, and the Moana Handicap, of 200sovs., seven furlongs (for horses that have not won an advertised flat race exceeding the value of 75sovs. at time of entry). Nominations for all events are due with the secretary, Mr. R. Wynyard, on Friday, January 9, at 5 p.m.
