The prospects of the trout fishing season in Rotorua, which opens on November 1, are -exceedingly good. Owing to the full supply of food, the fish are in very good condition. There is stated to be an unusual abundance of whitebait in the lake.
Mr. J. H. Watt, of Palmerston North, who has been on a visit to America for business purposes, is on his way back to New Zealand by the Makura.
Mr. John Meuli, of Wanganui, has been appointed secretary of the North Island Brass Band Association, vice Mr. Nolten, resigned. The association will hold a band contest in February.
Admiral Beatty, after receiving the freedom of Leicester, spoke outside the town hall to the bluejackets who had drawn his vehicle from the Sailors’ and Soldiers’ Club. He said he knew some of them had been his “pals” in that ceaseless watch in the North Sea that only Jack Tars could give.
