Biplane, who ran disappointingly at the A.J.C. spring meeting, has been turned out for a lengthy spell at Mr. Gasper’s paddocks at Windsor, N.S.W. During the A.J.C. spring meeting Spanner proved himself half horse and half mystery (says a Sydney critic), and punters will kiss him good-bye without a pang. The Victorian trainer, R. Bradfield, has won the October Stakes and Caulfield Stakes double for the last three years. In 1917 he won these races with Lanius; in 1918 with King Off a and Magpie respectively; and this years with Nightwatch.
Waimai is in a class by himself amongst the ’chasers engaged at Ellerslie.
As a result of his Epsom Handicap victory and his second in the Craven Plate at the recent A.J.C. meeting, Wolaroi has brought his total winnings up to £19,416, and is now sixth on the list of notable Australasian racehorses.
After competing in the Randwick Plate on the concluding day of the A.J.C. meeting, Poitrel displayed symptoms of soreness, and was not taken to the V.R.C. meeting, his trainer (H. J. Robinson) deciding to give the six-year-old son of St. Alwyne a spell in the paddocks at Coogee.
The Victoria Racing Club’s Cup meeting opens on Saturday next (November 1) and will be continued on the following Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The Victoria Derby comes up for decision on the opening day and the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday next. The successful Sydney lightweight jockey, Kenneth Bracken, who rode Poitrel to victory in the Spring Stakes and Randwick Plate at the A.J.C. meeting, was married on October 13 at St. Jude’s Church, Randwick, to Miss Audrey (Bonnie) Quinlan,- who has been dancing at the Tivoli for some time, and is a daughter of Mr. Matthew Quinlan,
