WANGANUI.

Waverley-Waitotara R.C.’s Meeting Being Eagerly Looked Forward To —Form of Acceptors Discussed— Wanganui Trotting Club’s Progressive Policy—Stakes for Next Meet- • ing Substantially Increased—-Client’s Auckland Cup Engagement. WANGANUI, Monday. The Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club’s meeting, to be held on Monday next (Labour Day), is being looked forward to with pleasurable anticipation by racegoers on this coast, as it is always a very popular holiday gathering. The acceptances

received for the forthcoming meeting are the best the club has ever been favoured with, and the indications are that the meeting will be a record success. Mr. W. Macfarlane, the club’s secretary, reports that all arrangements are well in hand, and that the course is in excellent order. The Wanganui Garrison Band has been engaged, and will enhance the pleasure of the club’s patrons by rendering a choice programme of music. There are ten left in the Brewer Handicap, with which proceedings will open, Croesus being at the top of the list with 9.8. He is said to be in good form, and with all ..his weight he will keep the best of the others very busy. Jutland'(B.l) is the popular pick, and on his running at Wanganui and with the. improvement he has probably made since, the son of Advance should be fit to cut out a very fast six furlongs next Monday. All Over- will, it is; expected, be kept for the Cup. Carmel Arch (7.0) *is nicely treated.

Zola has 11.13 in the Hurdles, but he looks to be a cut above the others engaged. He has been shaping well in his schooling essays, and looks .to be in capital fettle. Austin (9."8); is also-in good- form. ’ There are nine left’in the dup. All Over-, (8.10) being on the. top mark. Mr- Jas. Bull’s gelding is said' to have come on-a lot since the Wanganui meeting, and may start favourite.. Marqueteur (8.7) and Oratress read as well as any of the others. Vance has been moving very attractively on the track recently, and Ruddy will have his work cut out to give her 121 b.. and a beating. Tempo and Mannish are a pair which will keep the best going all the way. Nemaline and Farce in the Flying, Arrowfield and Engari in the Moumahaki Stakes, and Tame, Fox and Simon in the -Maiden are all expected to run • well at the meeting. T. Long took the two-year-old All Cerise to Wellington last Tuesday, also Admyra (the three-year-old daughter of Solferino). Both had been doing good work before leaving here, and should run well in their engagements. W. Rayner is going down to .Trentham to-morrow with Listowel and Yolande. Listowel is engaged in the Wellesley Stakes, and on his track form is expected to run well forward. Yolande will start in the Taita Handicap, in which she should, have a good chance, as the Absurd filly has been improving with every gallop recently. The sum of £2200 will be given away in stake money at the next meeting of the Wanganui Trotting Club, or £650 more than last year’s total. The Cup will be worth £40.0, and as the. limits have been tightened up a better class' of horses should be attracted to Wanganui than has been seen here in the past, especially as the meeting is to be held oh the club’s new track. The formation of the track is fast approaching completion, and gives every promise of fulfilling air anticipations, in which case it will be one of the best in the Dominion. Tenders are being accepted for the necessary fencing, stabling, etc., and the erection of a totalisator is to be commenced almost immediately, so that everything should be in readiness for the meeting in February. Nobleman’s win at Masterton on Saturday shows that Mr. W. J. Phillips’ gelding is in good shape, and the son of Sir Laddo is likely to run a big race in the New Zealand Cup. If he should prove equal to winning the Cup there would be much rejoicing amongst the many friends of Mr. Phillips, who is one of the most popular of racing men on this coast. Client has been allowed to take things easily since the Wanganui meeting, but will be sent along a bit now in view of the Feilding meeting. If his form there is up to expectations no doubt the son of Elevation will be taken to Auckland for the Cup, his prospects in which will depend to a great extent on the state of the going, as to do his best he waists the sting out of the ground.
