ELLERSLIE ITEMS.
: ■" Saturday morning was ideal for training operations at Ellerslie, the inner grass being in fine order after being closed for some months. General Stephens and Escaped had a . rough up over four furlongs, leaving the distance behind in 52 4-ssec. Flowing Bowl and War Tank, after some barrier practice, sprinted half a mile nearly at top... Both look in fine . trim to start the season. Finkop and Lavaless sprinted about six furlongs in company. The pair are .making rapid improvement. Comedy Prince and Tabasco left half a mile behind in 54 2-ssec, the former putting most vim into his task. Hessian and Forward Lady strode over a few furlongs at top, and both look in nice racing trim. Blue Cross and Tasso were together after a rough up, but were not on a time-breaking mission. Monocrat was left well in the rear at the end of a four furlong flutter by both Mountain Gold and Canowindra, who finished in front in 54 4-ssec. Bonnie Mabel, the Robert the Bruce —Little Mabel filly, and another showed pace in a spin on the two-year-old track. No Mistake also showed pace over a few furlongs. Penella and Llansannor sprinted sixfurlongs on the grass in Imin 22sec. Killard and Fabriquette look in fine racing fettle, but easy pacing was their portion. All Talk did easy pacing on the tan. Tenacious and Ulster’s full brother were .noticed on the same rink doing useful toil. a Clonmel, who has not done much of late is furnishing into a useful cut of a racer, and should later on assert herself on the racing track. The Lucullus —Te Aroha two-year-old is one of the nattiest looking juveniles at headquarters, although standing just a little bit straight in front. Garryowen put a lor of dash into a
six furlong task, but did not compete against the watch. Penona ran away from Masterful and Lady Energy in a three-furlong spin in 39 2-ssec. Pablo flew the sod wall, water and stone wall, and after cantering round repeated his task, taking the double in place of the water jump. Te Onga put in two solid sand circuits. Rathlin was associated with Stenning’s St. Paul gelding. The former wa,s steadied after cutting out the third hurdles. T. Chaplin, his rider, made a good recovery. Lady Bruce and Mangapotae sampled a few of the small battens proficiently. The latter afterwards jumped in company with No Surrender’s full sister, and also alone. The latter baulked when schooling in company, but negotiated several battens alone, with J. Preston in the saddle. •T. J. Preston recently purchased the gelding Manukau, who has plenty of pace and has been schooled. Ladj'’ Bobs, who died after slipping a foal, left a half sister to Marble Top, by Lucullus, which is well spoken of by those who have seen the juvenile, now in C. Coleman’s stable.
