LADIES’ GOLF.

N.Z. Ladies’ Championship. Considerable interest is being shown by the various clubs throughout the Dominion in the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Championship meeting, which opens at Middlemore on September 29. At the las£ annual general meeting held in December, 1914, it was decided that Auckland was to be the venue of the next championship meeting, but owing to the war it was, of course, suspended. With the advent of peace there is a reversion to the old order of things, and golf promises to go ahead with marked success. Special arrangements are to be made regarding the accommodation of competitors at the forthcoming gathering, and arrangements are in the hands of an energetic committee, with Mrs. Edmunds as honorary secretary. Ladies’ Golf Union. The Home Links Coronation Medal, competition for which is open to players with handicaps of 20 or under, will be played for during the last week in May, clubs selecting their own day for play. The winner last year was Miss L. Knubley, of Timaru. Tournaments. Several ladies’ clubs are resuming their annual open tournaments, suspended during the war. Christchurch held' one during Easter week, at which the Open Championship was won by Miss Rita Cracroft-Wilson. Napier and Manawatu have arranged to hold theirs during September. The latter is a three days’ fixture, beginning on the 23rd September, thus enabling players to come on to Auckland in time for the N.Z. Championship meeting. Waitemata.

The monthly medal played by the Waitemata Ladies’ Golf Club was won by Miss Goudie. The best cards were: —Miss Goudie, 96 —18 —78; Mrs. Bayly, 103—24—79; Mrs. Neville, 104 —24 —80; Miss Newell, 101—21 —80; Miss M. Alison, 95—13—-82; Mrs. Burt, 109—24—85; Mrs. Wicks, 122— 27—95.

Napier. With the troublous war days a thing of the past, the game is being taken up with all its early ardour, and the membership of the Napier Ladies’ Golf Club promises to substantially increase this season. The links at Waiohiki are in good playing condition, and an interesting programme has been arranged. The following officers have been elected: — President, Mrs. M. A. Perry; vicepresident, Mrs. Hector Smith; captain, Mrs. George Kelly; hon. secretary, Miss Ida Balfour; committee, Mesdames Harrison, Whetter, Douglas, Miss F. Hamlin, Miss M. Hindmarsh.

Wellington. A mixed foursomes (bogey) for cups presented by Sir Joseph Ward was played by members of the Wellington Golf Club at Heretaunga. The best cards handed in were: Mrs. H. A. Reid and R. W. Kirkby, 1 down; Mr. and Mrs. Marchbanks, 3 down; Mr. and Mrs. McEwan, 3 down. Eltham. The Eltham Golf Club opened their new links on May 8. The weather conditions were ideal, and there was a very large attendance of both players and visitors. Speeches were made by the Mayor (Mr. G. W. Taylor), the Hon. W. Carncross, and Mr. A. A. Stewart, and afternoon tea was dispensed by the lady members. The mixed foursomes resulted as follows: Mr. C. H. Walker and Miss A. Wilson, 51; Mr. Elliott and Miss H. Wilson, 57; Mr. Salmon and Mrs. Grimstone, 57. Tauranga. The Tauranga Ladies’ Golf Club has joined the N.Z. Ladies’ Golf Union. The club has a nine hole course, and except for one hole of 420yds., one of 242 and one of 210 yds., all holes are well under 200yds. The total length for the nine holes is only 1834yds.
