TOWN HALL,

THE ENGLISH PIERROTS. A crowded audience greeted, the second programme presented at the Town Hall Concert Chamber by the English Pierrots on Saturday night, the selection of entertaining items proving to the taste of everyone. The most popular number was “The Crinoline” duet by Miss Elsa Langley and Miss Elsie Rosslyn, be-costumed to match and expressing the mood most coyly. A chorus behind the scenes made an effective finish. Miss Rosslyn gave a pleasing rendering of “A Savannah Lullaby,” and had to respond to an emphatic encore. Miss Langley wag an alluring little figure in “Susan’s Sabots,” a Dutch song, in which Mr. Leslie Austin co-operated. Miss Billie Wilson evoked peals of laughter with her character study of “Jane,” and as an encore gave one of her inimitable child impersonations with “Mary Had a Little Lamb” as the subject. Mr. David Lyle sang with charm and feeling “Laurette,” and had to take another re-cdll, following

his sympathetic version of “Coming Home.” He also had the assistance of Mr. Louis Mitchell’s resonant voice in the duet “Rose of My Heart.” Mr. Roy Cooke was imperatively redemanded after his fine delivery of “Soul of Mine,” and acknowledged the tribute with “Will o’ the Wisp.” Miss Rima Young, the graceful accompanist, scored another emphatic success by her expressive playing, her solo “To the Sea” (Schubert-Liszt) having to be followed by an encore piece. Mr. W. P. Turner was the life and so.ul of the party, his ‘'Funny Phrases” making a big hit. while in conjunction with Messrs. Chas. Lawrence and Mitchell, he supplied continuous merriment in the medley “Rival Singers.” “My Novelette,” a pantomimic burlesque by the Pierrots, was cleverly done, and other concerted items and musical scenas were given with a vim anfl enjoyment that make an evening with the Pierrots such a pleasant memory. A fresh budget will be given on Saturday.
