OPERA HOUSE.
Mr. Tom Haverley’s Musical Farce Company again proved the mainstay of the new programme at the Opera House on Monday, when they entered into the fifth week of their stay by celebrating “Murphy’s Elopement.” Mr. Haverley, as the amative old Irishman, kept the audience in shrieks of laughter with his ludicrous antics, Mr. J. P. O’Neil, as his rival, helping to keep the fun going at express speed. The Kewpies were a gladdening feature in a number of prettilyarranged ballets, one of the most attractive being that supplementing Miss Merle Stewart’s singing of “Racketty Coo.” Miss Claire Lloyd was deservedly applauded for her number, “What Do You Want to Make Those Eyes at Me For?” and Mr. Billy Maloney was encored for his character song “Huckleberry Finn.” “The Stormy Sea of Love” was an-
other well-liked item, led by Mr. Reg. Moore and Miss Stewart. A movie skit and a boxing burlesque were amongst the merriment factors. In the vaudeville section Frank, Lank and Alice led the way in a juggling act, and while it lasted the stage seemed to rain clubs, so deftly were they manipulated. Bellora was again diverting in his realistic mimicry of birds and animals. F. 0.8. and his partner gave an acceptable musical turn, Mr. Brookes disclosing a baritone voice of sympathetic quality that won ready approval. Vaude and Verne made their customary hit with a supply of up-to-date local “gags,” which included a clever play on names. The little Maxims opened the bill with a display of step-dancing.
