LEADING AUCKLAND OPTICAL SPECIALIST.

MR, SAMUEL BARRY. The name of Samuel Barry, D.8.0.A., eyesight specialist, 290, Queen Street, Auckland, will always be associated with a new departure in the optical world, for at the time Mr. Barry commenced business, some 16 years ago, in Queen Street, the optical profession was in a very elementary condition.. Mr. Barry's skill and capability was soon recognised by a discriminating public, and in the course of a very short period matters were revolutionised and a spirit of enquiry set up which laid the foundation of Mr. Barry’s present successful business. Several innovations have been introduced by the firm in regard to glasses of recent years, and to Mr. Barry belongs the proud distinction of bringing before the public the famous Kontorik and Kryptok lenses. These are of comparatively recent introduction, and were unknown anywhere at the inception of Mr. Barry’s business. At the present time the bulk of the work carried out by the firm is confined to this particular class, a patent which is fully recognised as being the very best for the eyes. The outstanding features and advantages of the Kontorik lenses are as follows :--- A much wider field of vision is obtained, and affords as striking a contrast to the common flat lenses in use as a “bay window’’ does to the ordinary plate pane, this principally on account of the fact that they are made in a deeply curved form —the outer side convex and the inner concave. They are made with two facts in mind, viz , that the front of the eyeball has a certain curvature perfectly spherical in the normal eye, and that the eyes rotate in various directions in a definite circle. Those who use flat lenses know how often they reflect from light or objects that are behind one; this, of course, is entirely eliminated by the use of Kontorik lenses. They can also be worn close to the eyes, without the lashes touching the glass. This proximity to the eyes increases the field of sight and clearness of vision and gives more protection to the eyes, and are certainly more becoming and less conspicuous than the flat lenses. The word Kryptok, which Mr. Barry uses to define a special lens, means hidden eye. The Kryptok lenses have proved a wonderful success. This is a combination of two sights, suitable, of course.' only to people who need different glasses for far and near sight They supersede -the old style of “Farnear” glasses, and are, of course, infinitely better. Mr. Barry is also agent for “Murine.” the famous eye tonic, also the Little Gem Ear ’Phone for the deaf, particulars of which will be forwarded on application. The firm also make a specialty of repairs to eyeglasses and spectacles, and as a full record is kept of all glasses made by them clients can always replace broken lenses or procure duplicate glasses with perfect accuracy and without delay. One important point must not be lost sight of, this being the fact that all work is done on the premises. The sight is tested, lenses are prescribed and ground, and the finished glasses fitted to the face, in addition to which 12 months’ guarantee is given. This, however, is only practicable where nothing but skilled opticians are in charge, and we have no hesitation in stating from personal experience that Mr. Barry undoubtedly ranks as one of the best and most efficient opticians in the Dominion, and the enormous growth

of the business has been due to integrity, skilful workmanship, reasonable charges and ungrudging attention to every client.
