SPRING MEETING. EXCELLENT NOMINATIONS RECEIVED. Racing enthusiasts are looking forward with intense interest to the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s spring meeting, which is to be held on the Makaraka Racecourse on Thursday and Friday, October 25 and 26. Mr. D. R. De Costa, the energetic secretary, has arrangements well in hand for the approaching gathering, and, judging by indications, the meeting gives every promise of proving one of the most successful spring fixtures yet held by this popular and go-ahead racing body. Splendid nominations were received on Friday last for the 16 events to come up for decision at the two days’ meeting. Altogether 250 entries have been forwarded to the club’s office, included in the number being many well-known performers at North Island meetings, and the appearance of the weights for the opening day, which Mr. H Coyle will make on Monday, October 15, is awaited with considerable interest. The Juvenile Stakes, for two and three-year-olds, to be run on the second day. has attracted a good entry, and there is every prospect of a stirring contest. Owners should bear in mind that acceptances for the first day’s events are due on Saturday, October 20, at 9 p.m. The following is a list of the nominations for both days:— FIRST DAY.
