DANNEVIRKE RACING CLUB.

SPRING MEETING OPENS ON WEDNESDAY NEXT. Most encouraging acceptances have been received for the Dannevirke Racing Club’s spring meeting, which is to be held on the club's course, Taniaki, on Wednesday next (September 12). The energetic secretary, Mr. Robert Takle, and the other officials of the club, have spared no effort to ensure the success of this popular fixture, and there is good reason to anticipate a representative gathering of North Island sportsmen at Tamaki next week. The principal event, the Otanga Handicap (one mile and a furlong) has attracted 16 acceptors, Multiply (9.0) being at the head of the list, the Multifid gelding being closely followed by Croesus, Cleft, and Orleans. The last-named gelding’s victory in the Parliamentary Handicap (one mile aiid a-quarter) at Trentham in July last, when he silenced a. strong field and returned a substantial two-figure dividend, lias caused the son of Conqueror to become one of tlie favourites for his engagement on Wednesday. Chuckle (7.10) is also a much fancied candidate, while Elocution and Lady Louisa are freely mentioned in connection with the event. Nineteen are engaged in the Spring Handicap (six furlongs), Trials, Settler, Gold Painting and Botanist being a quartette claiming engagements in the Otanga Handicap also. Glenroy, Potentiality, Merrie Poto, and Interlude should be among the most fancied on the day.

Splendid fields are engaged in the hack events and some stirring finishes should be witnessed.
