Clarence (by Ravensworth), who won the Wanganui Steeplechase a third of a century ago. and Moifaa (by Natator), who was victorious in 1901, would, no doubt, be voted the
best horses that ever won that race, though some good all-round ones have won since the old slow and sure jumper Butcher Boy got home in 1875. During 43 anniversaries of the Wanganui Steeplechase some 36 different sires have been represented by winners. Don Juan (by Riddlesworth) and Natator (by Traducer) each claimed three winners. Traducer himself sired one winner and though the blood of Riddlesworth and The Painter has been much in evidence, that of Traducer comes in much more often, either directly or indirectly through sires or mares possessing the blood. * * * * Writing frem France at the end of March, Private Ernest Chadwick, of Remuera, mentioned that during a few days’ leave in London he had had the pleasure of visiting, with some of his mates, amongst other places of interest the King’s Stud.
