AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

WINTER MEETING. There is nothing much to be said more than has already been said about the two Great Northern jumpingevents, and we must await the results of the jumping races at Wanganui for at least some light to be shed on the situation. Horses that are amongst the most in favour for the Great Northern Hurdle Race, and some that are well fancied for the Great Northern Steeplechase, will be competing there. Waimai has probably more friends in Auckland for both Hurdles and Steeplechase than any other, though a number of others are being supported locally in the doubles. Colonel Soult Hopfield and El Gallo, three of the Auckland-trained candidates for the Cornwall Handicap, are doing well at headquarters, and Housewife is another that has sprinted nicely over varying distances. Mr. Coyle gave us the weights for the six minor events of the meeting on Monday, and they will bear a lot of thinking over, and need not be discussed just now. The reduced list will be before readers on Saturday morning, after the acceptances go in. They are due on Friday might, together with final payments for the Great Northern jumping races and

the Cornwall Handicap. It can be taken for granted that there will be a good all-round response from owners, and there seems every reason to anticipate that the meeting will be quite up to the standard of its predecessors. Some of the horses not engaged at Wanganui are expected this week, and early next week the number will be swelled to usual proportions. The tracks are good at headquarters, and the winding-up week will be a busy one there. The following are the handicaps for the minor events: —
