TROTTING NOTES.

M. Edwards has been sending his horses along since arriving. On Thursday in very heavy going, Wallace Wood ran four furlongs in Imin 9sec, and after jogging round put the pressure on for another half mile, which he left behind in lmin 7sec, without being bustled. His maiden candidate, Lord not all out, strolled over half a mile in lmin 14 l-ssec. Calton ran one quarter easily in 37sec. Manny Edwards has been earning £2O a week for the past 12 months with his top notcher, Wallace Wood. There is still money in a good horse. On Thursday, Mr. Smith was sending Paul Huon along usefully. The horse looks a picture, and came up in charge of W. R. Tone.

-Steel Bell, in charge of J. Lynch, moved like a piece of machinery over a mile and a-half, pleasing the onlookers very much. Mr. J. Leckie received word that his horse Mandarene fell while competing in a race at the Dunedin T.C. meeting, and will have to be rested probably for some months. Miss Dexter is in J. Lynch’s care. The mare has a yearling filly to Galindo. Rita Galindo, in the same interests, has been mated with Prince Child. Both mares are doing good work. Miss Dexter, Rita Galindo and Lady S. were all working usefully at approximately 20sec per furlong without being hustled. Asturio, Master Park, and Dorothy Dimple, in Cunningham’s care, all look forward, and can be relied on to run well forward from their respective marks. At the end of the week Phyllistina and Belle Gray had a brush up over a mile, the former finishing in front in a little under 2min 20sec. Both finished well. Auckland Girl had Bush Child and another in trouble at the end of a two mile run in 4min 52sec. Mr. Pettie’s mare was driven by W. Orange. Master Ham, Wereoa and Manukau Park were out for a mile spin, which they left behind in 2min 25sec, finishing up a mile and a-half in 3min 42 2T. W. Price’s horses, Papatina, Dabster, Sjambok, Silver Black. Dignity, Rita Galindo, S’irene and Wallace M., all look healthy and well. Julian has Miss Rolf and Prince Rufus at about the top of their form. The Prince ran two separate half miles in lmin 3-ssec and lmin 9 l-ssec respectively; the filly, running on the bit, registered lmin 11 4-ssec and lmin 10 3- respectively. Belle Grey, also in the same stable, is very well. Kereone had a couple of track mates in dire trouble at the end of a mile and a-half in the saddle in 3min 52sec, finishing the last half mile solidly. Kotiri, Sweet Memory, Clive, Tablet, Hint, Selkirk, Full Sail, Charming Rod, Nellie Clive, Wildfire, Grattan Abbey. Prince Child, Waverley, Lady Park, St. Trella, Strategy and Harold Junior have all come through strong work. Mr. Jasper Burfoot, the owner of the trotting mare Lady Doctor and others, who has been farming for the last couple of seasons at Kaipara Flats, died last week.
