HANDICAPS.
GISBORNE RACING CLUB. ' SUMMER MEETING. Keen interest is being taken in the Gisborne Racing Club’s summer meeting, which takes place on the club s course at Te Hapara on Thursday and Saturday, February 1 and 3. Large fields are engaged in the events to be decided on the first day, and the appearance of the handicaps points to a satisfactory number of horses going to the post to fulfil their respective engagements. At present no less than 18 horses figure in the Gisborne Cup, of 400sovs, one mile and a-quarter, the number including Multifual, Ladogeur. Blackall. Cleft, Bon Reve, Pacific Slope, Bleriot and Dribble. The Flying Handicap, of 170sovs. six furlongs, has attracted 13 sprinters, including Downham, Sea Lord, Cleft, Zeus, Gazique, Carlysian, Hexton and Mandoline, and a keen contest is anticipated. Acceptances fall due on Friday next, January 26, at 9 p.m., for the first day s events, when an excellent response from owners and trainers should be forthcoming.
