EGMONT RACING CLUB.
SUMMER MEETING. A final reminder is necessary to owners and trainers that nominations for the Egmont Racing Club’s summer meeting, to be held at Hawera on January 31 and February 1, are due with the secretary, Mr. V. B. Stratton, Hawera, on Monday next, January 8. This two days’ gathering takes rank with the best and most
popular racing fixtures in the North Island, the events being richly endowed with stake money, making it well worth bringing horses a considerable distance overland to compete at the meeting. The Egmont Cup, of 500sovs., one mile and a-half, is a much-coveted event by North Island owners, and occasionally induces South Island sportsmen to bring their respective representatives North to contest the principal race of the Egmont R.C.’s summer gathering. Another event which in* ariably proves a strong inducement to owners and trainers to Visit the fixture is the Egmont Stakes, of 500sovs„ six furlongs, this also oeing included among the first day’s events. On the second day another important weight-for-age event, in the /'Hawera Stakes, of 400sovs., one mile, will claim attention, while the Atkinson Memorial Stakes, of 35050v5., one mile and a-quarter, will give runners in the Cup on the previous day a further opportunity to earn distinction. A hurdle event is to be run on each day, both being 1% miles, while sprint, hack and welter handicaps figure largely on both days’ programmes, affording an admirable opportunity to the various training establishments to send representatives to this highly popular fixture.
