ANNUAL MEETING. CRAWFORD WINS THE CUP. The Stratford Racing Club opened their annual meeting at Stratford on New Year’s Day, when a record attendance was on hand to assist in making the fixture the success it proved. The weather was ideal, and a splendid afternoon’s racing was witnessed. The totalisator staff handled £21,934, as against £19,185 10s. for the opening day of the 1916 gathering, being an increase of '£2749 10s. The sum of £21,394 was handled on the totalisator, making a total for the meeting of £43,328, as against £38,862 for 1916. The racing was keen, and only two favourites scored during the afternoon.
