LADIES’ GOLF.

Auckland. , , _ The flag match played ay members of the Auckland Ladies’ Golt Club at Middlemore on October 13 resulted m a win for Miss Una Holmes, who carried the flag to the seventeenth hole. • The C grade Red Cross medal was won 'by j Miss E. Foster, whose card read 88 —26—-62. .-■A Red Cross day will be held at Middlemore on November 7, and the matches arranged will be open to all lady golfers. In the morning a 12hble bogey match will be played, and in the afternoon a four-ball, best-ball match. Continuous putting and approaching competitions will be held in the afternoon. All entry fees will go to the Red Cross Fund. Hamilton. Last Saturday afternoon a Red Cross medal was competed for by the members of the Hamilton Club. Miss Tui King proved to be the winner with : the score 118 —35 —83. The Patriotic Committe have asked the members of the Golf Club to take charge of their stall for one day. The date suggested is November 2nd, and : the members intend to do their best : to make golf day a record one. Homemade cakes and all manner of good things will be on the stall for sale. Mastertoii. Mrs. Guy Williams has won the ladies’ championship in connection with the Masterton Golf Club, with Miss J. Robieson as runner-up. * * ♦ Maungakiekie. .New Plymouth. . ■ - The Tobacco Day held at the Waiwakaiho links on Thursday, sth October, was a great success, the sum of £ll being taken in entrance fees and afternoon tea money alone. This was further augmented by several donations, including £1 from Dr. -Leatham, £1 from the White Hart 'commercial travellers, and several

smaler donations, making a total alount o. £l5 15s. Entries were received irom Stratford, Inglewood and Witiora, as well as from the Nev Jmouth Club (both ladies and men). The arrangements for the day s gramme were very wel; managed by the club captain, Mrs. Johns, to whom much of the credit of the day s success is due. She was ably & ssi sted bv the committee and Mrs. Kebbell, mis. Penn and Miss B. Matthews, who looked after the luncheon and tea, and by Miss Cutfield, who was in charge of the sweets. Thanks must be given to Dr. Leatham, Mr. Cutfield, Mr. McQuade, Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. Walker, and Miss Putt for placing their cars at the disposal of the club for conveying visitors to the links. Following are the results of the day’s matches: — Flag Match, 18 holes. Seniors: Miss D. Laing (Inglewood), with Ila strokes, carried her flag just short of the 20th green, Miss L. Laing, Ila, being second, a few yards off. Miss L. Thompson (N.P.) holed out at the 19th, and Miss Rundle (Witiora) was 2ft from the pin at the same ho.e. Juniors: Mrs. F. Brown (Witiora) played her 127 tn stroke and holed out at the 20th hole, winning easily.. Mrs. Stewart (Stratford) was second, and Miss C. Leatham, Miss Bradbury, Miss L. Reed (all N.P. Club) and Mrs. Dell (Witiora) all played strokes on to the 19th green. Bogey Match. —Seniors: Miss Rundle (Witiora) ended up all square. Masses D. and L. Laing (Inglewood,, were 2 down, Mrs. Buxton (Witiora) and Mrs. Birch-Johnston (N.P.) 3 down, and Mrs. Glenn, Miss M. Free and Miss Thomson (all N.P.) 4 down. Juniors: Mrs. F. Brown (Witiora) finish 2d 2 up on bogey, but could not win both matches, so Miss L. Reed (Nl.). 1 down, was first, with Miss K. F.ea 3 down.

App.caching. —Seniors: Mrs. BirchJohnston and Miss Blundell tied with 5 points, and in the play-off Miss Blundell won with 3. Juniors: Mrs. Ge l and Miss Tiplady tied with 3, and in the play off Miss Tiplady won. Putting.—The gol'ers’ putting match for seniors was won by Miss Rundle with a score of 16, but as she was a winner in the morning the prize went to Miss Leatham, 18. The junior was won by Miss Bradbury, 16. A continuous putting match was held for non-golfers, and this was wor. by Mrs. E. F. Blundell, with Mrs. Brewster second, 21. Medal Match for Men.—This was won by E. P. Webster with the good score of 102—27—75. W. H. Wood was second with 99 —20 —79.

Driving Competition. —Seniors: This was won by Miss Laing (Inglewood) with a good drive of 191 yards, Mrs. Johns (N.P.) being second (186 yards) and Mrs. G-lenn (N.P.) third (182 yards). Juniors: Miss Spence (Stratford) first, with 135 yards.
