The following are the best cards returned in the medal round of the Maungakiekie Ladies’ Golf Club, played last Wednesday week:—Miss Moginie, 101—20 —81; Miss McGovern, 113 —32 —81; Miss Haslett, 35 —83; Miss Wallace, 120 —36 —84; Miss Bayly, 95 —10 —85; Miss Abbott, 119 —34 —85. * * ■> * Napier. The monthly medal Red Cross competition was played at the Waiohiki links on September 5. The following is the result:—A Grade: Mrs. Russell, 96 —17 —79; Miss Kettle, 101 —17 —84; Miss Hamlin, 98 —9 —89. B Grade: Miss Ormond, 111 —32 —79; Miss R. Brown 116 —33 —S 3; Miss N. Williams, 110—23—87; Miss I Balfour, 112-25 ' —B7. * * =•= * Thames. The medal handicap for Miss Baker’s trophy was won by Miss Brenda Smith, with net score of 43. Other cards were: Mrs. Price 44, Mrs. Bruce 50, Miss Watson 54, Miss Read 56, Mrs. Harden 56, and Mrs. Rudman 59. * * V * Dunedin. . , The members of the Otago Ladies Club played their usual monthly medal match on September sth. The day was delightful, and the game was much enjoyed. The best scores in the senior division were:—Miss Glendining, 99 —17 —82; Miss Black, 105 20 —85; Mrs. Mackie, 103 —17 —86; Mrs. Sargood, 100 —13 —87. In the junior grade Mrs. Bakewell won with a score of 110—33—77, the next best bemg Miss Jamieson, 116 —33 —83; Miss Sargood, 119 —36 —83. The following was the result of the first round of the club championship: Miss Mill beat Miss Roberts, 1 up on the 18th green; Mrs. Sargood beat Miss A. Mill, 2 up and 1; Miss Theomin beat Miss Todd, 6 up and 5; Miss Glendining beat Miss Fynmore, 7 up and 6. The Consolation is to take the form of match play, and great interest is being taken in the games, there being 16 competitors. As regards the play of the members, Miss Glendining is playing good golf at present, being steady all along, and the final for the championship should be very close between the four left in. The next match day is the 21st (Red Cross day), and a good entry is hoped for, as it will be the last match (Red Cross) for this season. * * * * Invercargill. A very enjoyable flag match was played at Otatara for a prize given by Mrs. T. M. Macdonald. About twenty members took part in the match, which was won by Miss Joyce, Mrs. Handyside being second. A Balclutha party which motored on Sunday week to Heriot and Beaumont was astonished to encounter drift snow several feet high on one part ot the Heriot road (says the “Free Press”). The snowfall in the district, they were informed, had been very heavy, and subsequent high winds had caused it to drift to an unusual extent, piling up in some of the gullies and hill clefts to a depth of 40ft. and 60ft. * * * New Plymouth. A Red Cross Medal match wa: played on Tuesday in conjunction wiLi the second round of the Eclectric Match for a prize presented by the secretary. Miss K. Free proved to be the winner of both competitions, returning a nett score of 73 in the Eclectric Match and 80 in the Red Cross Medal. Other scores were: — Red Cross Medal, Miss L. Thompson, 111—27—84; Miss F. Putt, 111—23— 88; Miss L. Reed, 134 —32-—92. An Electric match resulted as follows: — Miss K. Free, 108—35—73; Miss L. Thomson, 105 —27 —78; Miss C. Leatham, 113—34—79; Mrs. Johns, 102— 20—82.- * * The tournament on the Belmont links was concluded in favourable weather. A number of visitors spent the day on the links. Good games were witnessed in the semi-finals of the championship, when Mrs. McLean (Hawera) beat Mrs. Russell Grace and Miss Burr beat Mrs. W. Cave (Waverley). In the final Mrs. Me Lean was victorious, beating Mss Burr 5 up and 3 to play. The financial result is very satis factory, the war funds benefiting to the extent of about £54, the various receipts being, entries, £25 12s. 10d.; luncheon and afternoon tea, £l4 95.; flowers and sweets, £l6 4s. 3d The teta expenses were under £2.
