WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB.
The spring meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club will be. decided on Thursday and Saturday next. The entries for the meeting are such that there is every reason to expect it to be a highly successful one. The weights, however, are not due until to-day, so arranged that the first day’s racing at Avondale should be before the weight adjuster, so we shall have to wait until next week to deal with the handicap events. It would appear probable that when the final payments are made for the Wanganui Guineas there will be a sufficient number to ensure a good field. The first acceptance for that race goes in on Monday next, when the acceptances for the handicap events are also due.
The stables of a number of prominent owners are represented, and though it does not leave much time between the running of the Avondale Guineas on Saturday, we may see Mr. T. H. Lowry represented by Bjorneborg or Beltane, it not by another of his team of five which were nominated. Mr. G. D. Greenwood may have Splendant, Sir Geo. Clifford has Good Hope, the Hon. J. D. Ormond will have one or more of his team by Hymettus, Mr. Bidwill will have Devotion (a recent winner) and Elation to select from if both do not represent him, and there are other stables that may perhaps have runners.
