NEW ZEALAND’S WAR LOAN.
The most sanguine expectations have been more than realised in connection with New Zealand’s War Loan, Sir J. G. Ward, Minister of Financed having announced that up to Monday night last (August 21) over £9,250,000 had been subscribed. This fact is striking evidence of the whole-hearted response of the people throughout the Dominion in subscribing to this necessary demand, and so help to win the war for the Allies. Only £8,000,000 was asked for locally, but Parliament authorised £16,000,000 in all, and it is intended that the surplus money be availed of for war purposes, for which there is still further money required. The sale of war loan certificates will therefore be continued for some time, so that there will be no disappointed applicants.
