TROTTING NOTES.

On Monday morning the track at Alexandra Park was in fine order, and «'veral lenses put in useful work. C Hird is reducing the mellow con dition on the Dan Patch maiden candidate a big framed four-year-old mare Hird has taken Kirikiriroa one of the spelling list, and the son ot Atlas — Vulture will shortly resume active toil.

The Newmarket boniface, Mr. Fred. Merrick, purchased the black three-year-old gelding by Specialist—Gohia, and has placed the gelding in T. V . Price’s hands to prepare for his engagements. The same trainer now has seven trotters and pacers to make a start upon for the 1916-17 season. The team is as follows: —Silver Black. Malmsbury, a half brother to Teddy McKinney; a three-year-old filly by Dillon Bell—Cyren, Dignity, the straightout trotter Miss Lonsdale and Advocatress (by Advocate), a maiden. Rumour says that Mr. Harry Wilson has become a convert to the ti otting game and has a representative in training at the park. On Monday, T. W. Price worked his team usefully. Miss Lonsdale, with the straps on, was running along, nicely handled by young Dave Price. The roan mare is in fine condition. Mr. Bert Edwards was present with False Alarm and lan Huon. The former looks in the pink of condition, and with a few pipe openers will b-* ready to race. lan also looks mcel> strung up, and is a pleasing movei. Mr. Paul’s pacer Ihumata, was doing useful work in the saddle. The brown still looks a bit backward, but full ot hard feed. Lady S. was ridden with Victor G. on the lead. The latter looks bright and well, and a win would not be out of place for this little mouse-coloured pacer. , . . Mr. James Petties’ team have just made a start and look bright and well Sweet Memory and co. may be expected to take part at the opening meeting of the Auckland Trotting Clue in October. , _ It is current gossip at the park that W. Orange will find his way back to the old rendezvous before many months are over to resume his ol 1 place among the trainers at Epsom. G. Robertson, one of the “regulars at the park, has a good sort of a pacei out of a Victor Royal mare that was doing easy work on Monday morning in the 'sulky with the straps on. Mr. A. Sheppard’s Prince Child, who was circling the track on Monday, ran along at a' strong gait in the sulky, being hoppled, and looks fairly well forward.

For the seventh time in succession a two-year-old pacer from Sydney has captured the classic Victorian Sires’ Produce Stakes for pacers. On July 20th, at Richmond, the St Elmo colt Chid easily accounted for his three opponents in this section. Chid is the property of the crack Sydney re'nsftian, Peter Riddle, who registered his fourth success in this event by steering Chid. * * * * The death is announced of the trotting stallion Owyhee, which took place recently at the Truganina stud farm, Werribee, Victoria. Owyhee was a very successful sire, and held a record of 2min. llsec. for a mile, which he trotted in America.
