LADIES’ GOLF.

Auckland. The final round of the stroke competition was played by members of the Waitemata Ladies’ Golf Club on Wednesday of last week, and resulted in a win for Miss Newell, whose net score on the 'first day was 81 and on the second day 71, totalling 152. The next best cards were those of Miss Preece and Miss Bray, 161 each. The Red Cross monthly medal match wa splayed simultaneously, and resulted in a win for Miss Newell with a score of 98 —27—71. The Isabelle Broomfield memorial match was played by the Auckland Ladies’ Club on June 20. and was won by Mrs. D. Hay with the excellent score of 88 —15 —73. Miss M. Payton was second with 89 —10 —79, and Miss S. Payton third with 90 —10 —80. The May continuous bogey match was won by Miss N. Upton, whose best score was all square. Miss S. Payton, who recently did a round of 86, now has to her credit the best ladies’ score for the course, with the exception of that of Mrs. Guy Williams, present lady champion of the Dominion. Miss Payton is playing consistently good golf this season. The monthly medal competition for June, postponed from the 7th, was played on Tuesday, June 20, by the Maungakiekie Ladies’ Golf Club. The following are the best cards returned: Miss Wilson, 110—25—85; Miss Tresidder, 108 —21 —87; Mrs. Trice, 123 — 31—92. * * * Invercargill. The Red Cross medal match was played at Otatara last Thursday, Miss Joyce handing in the best score for the afternoon. * * * » Johnsonville. The ladies of the Johnsonville Golf Club played a Red Cross medal competition on June 20. It was won by Mrs. Burton, with Miss Ellison second. :j; * * * Dunedin. The third Red Cross medal match was played recently by the ladies of the Otago Club. There was a very good entry, and it is hoped that still more players will enter for the remaining three matches. The match was bogey, and resulted in a win for Miss Jamieson, 6 down, handicap 24. fJome of those playing were Mesdames Gilray, Bakewell, Acheson, Misses Roberts, Law, Black, Ogston, Theomin, Jamieson, and Fynmore. The scores were not good, and bogey proved too stiff for many of the players. Among the club’s most promising players is Miss K. Black, already known in tennis and hockey circles. She has only been playing a year and has already reduced her handicap from 36 to 20. The next match will be held on July 4th, when the L.G.U. and the club’s gold and silver medals will be played for.
