REPUTATION SOLD.
Mr. John McDonald has purchased the New Zealand horse Reputation (says “Pilot” in the “Referee”), and next season this well-performed son ■of Martian will keep Mountain King company at Mungie Bundie. There is no doubt about the wisdom of Mr. McDonald’s selection, for from every point of view Reputation is just the type of horse that should suit the many well-bred fillies by Mountain King that Mr. McDonald has. Reputation’s breeding is, of course, well known. He is by the Martagon horse Martian, who is the most successful sire in New Zealand, and his dam is an own sister to Stepniak (also a stud success) and She, the dam of Bobadil. The sale was effected through Messrs. H. Chisholm and Co., and the price given was a large one. Both Mr. W. Miller and his late trainer, F. McGrath, think that there is every possibility of Reputation standing another preparation after a spell, but Mr. McDonald has decided to retire him to the stud without seeking further turf laurels.
never seems to be a lack of flat racers. The acceptances for the meeting close on Friday.
