GREENROOM GOSSIP.
The Victor Prince Revue Company, who have been playing with great success in the south, are shortly to appear at the Auckland Opera House. Mr. Allan Doone, during his visit to San Francisco, secured a number of fine plays, and left there on May 2 by the s.s. Ventura, and will arrive in Sydney on the 23rd inst. Miss Keeley will also arrive by the same boat. After going south in June the company will return to Auckland in September, and play a two weeks’ season, commencing on August 26 and finishing on September 9. The company’s opening bill in New Zealand will be the latest success “O’Leary, V.C., which scored such a success in Melbourne and Sydney. The repertoire will include “Bold Soger Boy,” “Colleen Bawn,” “The Heart of Paddy Whack,” and others. The season opens in Gisborne on June 14. * * * * That most delightful of all shows, the Tivoli Follies’ Pantomime Company, is shortly to visit New Zealand, reinforced with several additional star artists to those who appeared in New Zealand on the occasion of the last visit. Once more 'we are to see the inimitable Jack Cannot, the beautiful Vera Pearce, and the quaint Billy Rego, the smartest of smart ballets, and the most gorgeous of stage settings, but in addition we are to see and hear that charming comedienne Miss Thelma Raye, Walter Woods, the whimsical coon, and Geo. Welch, a wonderfully gifted burlesque artist. The following is the tour of the company: — Auckland, July 4 to 10; Napier, 17 and 18; Hastings, July 19; Wanganui, July 20 and 21; Eltham, July 22; New Plymouth, July 24 and 25; Palmerston North, July 26; Masterton, July 27 and 28; Wellington, July 29 to August 5; Timaru, August 8 and 9; Waimate, August 10; Oamaru, August 11; Dunedin, August 12 to 18; Invercargill, August 19 and 21; Christchurch, August 23 to 29. Nowadays, when so many entertainments are given to benefit the patriotic funds, amateur acting is very much to the fore, but an allthrough amateur cast, however, is no longer piquant or up to date. “Mixed” acting is what now charms forth the guineas at “in-aid ofs.” Elizabeth Asquith started the craze, and now it waxes apace. We are soon to see Lady Diana Manners taking Delysia’s part with Morton, and other pretty ones of the programmeselling set acting with real actors at a big matinee.
