CANTERBURY NOTES.
(By Tele.—Christchurch Correspondent.) Todd Bells, who won the chief event at the Waikato Trotting- Club’s meeting on Saturday, claims an engagement in the Autumn Handicap at the New Brighton meeting. In being placed on the 4min 53sec mark the northerner has been offered every inducement to make the trip. M. Edwards is again to take up the role of mine host, having acquired the lease of the New Brighton Hotel from Mr. George Payne. After enjoying a spell in the Gore district, Cathedral Chimes has returned to J. Bryce’s stable to be got ready for winter racing. Three prominent New Brighton Derbycandidates in Reggie Huon, Tamarisk and Harold Devon will sport silk on the opening day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting. Very satisfactory acceptances have been received for the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting, which takes place on Thursday and Saturday next. Eleven stand their ground in the Kitchener Handicap, including Denver Huon, who will be making his reappearance after a lengthy retirement from the race tracks. The only notable defection from this event is Mako Mako, who was made such a strongfavourite for the only race he contested at Addington last month.
