Wild West won a race recently in Australia carrying lOst. Double winners at race meetings have been fairly frequent of late. * * J. O’Shea, F. Stevens, McDonald and C. Price had two winning rides each during the Wanganui meeting. * * ♦ ♦ w. H. McLachlan, the Australian horseman, is haliday-making at Rotorua. The Caulfield Futurity Stakes was won on Saturday by the Posltano — Indian Queen horse Maharajah (7.3), who breat Traquette (9.12) and Carlita (10.3) and twelve others. Maharajah won by two lengths and a-half in Imin. Playoff was the largest dividend payer at the Wanganui meeting, when he won the Flying Handicap. Backers of Master Lupin received a surprising dividend also when he won the Wanganui Stakes. Carmont, who rode Moulu in his engagements at the Wanganui meeting, was suspended for one month for crossing the field in the Wanganui Stakes and causing Sir Alba to stumble and lose his ridei’ (J. Rae) soon after the start. Emerson, rider of Recorder, another of Mr. Gerald Stead’s horses, was fined £lO for trying to anticipate the starter m the last race.
