DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING. (By Telegraph—Dunedin Correspondent) The Dunedin Jockey Club’s summer meeting was opened on Monday in cold and showery weather, but this circumstance did not greatly affect the going. The attendance was large, and the racing of an interesting character. The totalisator handled £18,480, as aga’nst £18,849 10s. for the opening day of the last summer fixture. Master Hamilton scored easily at the finish of the Summer Hurdles. Moddite ran well to the turn, while Peerless lost ground at his fences. Sister Regis began badly in the Salisbury Handicap, and had to make up a lot' of ground to win from Bellshire, who was not well handled. Down ran best of the others, while Treadfire received a bad passage. Kilboyne cut up in the Dunedin Handicap when challenged by Don Pacifico, who stayed on best. First Glance made a one-horse race of the Otago Handicap after Ardenvhor ran himself out. Countess Tolstoi ran well for a little over a mile. Zuland. the favourite, shut up in the Trial Stakes, but did not get a clear run over the last part. Marc Antony beat Eokowae nicely at the fin’sh. Mickey Free might have been closer up if more use had been made of him in the early part.

Daytime was never dangerous at the finish of the Federal Handicap, in which Robert Bell suffered interference, but just got up to beat Findhorn. who was badly handled and should have won. Findhorn had the race won at the distance, but his rider rede too confidently, Charlotte ran a good race, and so d'd Bee and Meltchikoff. Speedometer showed a lot of pace, but was not forward enough to see out the race. Palisade was the last to move. Martuk just beat Bon in the Burnside Handicap. Silent Way, who was a strong favourite, received a bad passage. Peg won the Otokia Weltei- nicely from Ringform, who ran a good race, and should improve. Varia/ian got shut out ins’de the distance and dd well to finish third. Leading Lady looked a winner at seven furlongs, but she stopped over the last bit. Gnome ran a fair race after losing his position.
