The Manawatu Racing Club opened their summer meeting on Monday in most unfavourable weather, ra n fall - ing steadily and causing much inconvenience to patrons. there was a large attendance, but speculation was interfered to no inconsiderable extent owing to/he wet weather, and when the totals were up for the day it was found tha t the sum of £27.891 had been hanaled on the totalisator, compared with £02,99on the opening day of the 1911 ture The good field of 13 contested the 'Manawatu Cup. for which Chortle was installed a staunch favourite but the G’sborne crack finished outside of 1 place. Victory went to Welcome Nugget who finished in resolute fash \°”’ Master Moutoa running mto second place with Rinaldo third.
