COMING BIG WILLIAMSON ATTRACTION.
ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY.
Boxing Night will see the advent of the famous J. C. Williamson Comic Opera Company at His Majesty’s Theatre, Auckland. A season of quick changes is promised, with the attractions of several of the most popular comic operas and musical comedies. The directors of the J.C.W. firm recently in Sydney and Melbourne exploited the above policy with astonishing results. It became evident that musical comedy, especially that of a reminiscent kind, was what the public required. Anyway, a series of revivals was more than warmly welcomed. In the present case something of a musical “embarras de riches” is promised. No less than six pieces will be staged over a season of thirteen nights. Four of the plays have been seen here previously, viz., “Our Miss Gibbs,” “The Quaker Girl,” “Paul Jones” and “Ma Mie Rosette.” Two entirely new comic operas will will also be given, “Gipsy Love” and “The Dancing Mistress,” both of which will be seen here for the first time. The company is said to be perhaps the best artistically and most generously appointed of any that has heretofore exploited comic opera in the Dominion.
