SOUTHERN STAGE NOTES.

WELLINGTON, November 15. After a three weeks’ interval the Grand Opera House will be re-opened on the 27th inst. by J. C. Williamson’s Comedy Company with the highlysuccessful “Potash and Perlmutter.” The season, which extends over seven nights, ought to prove a record one, that is judging by the way the piece has caught on wherever it has been played. The company is a fine one, and includes several artists who are making their first v sit to New Zealand. This week’s programmes at the various picture shows are not quite up to the standard of those presented during the past few months, but it does not seem to affect the business being done. The last programme at His Majesty’s Theatre is a very fine one, including as it does several really clever turns. Elton Black’s Revue Company are the headliners in the biJLjind have hit the popular taste. Mr. W. Burton, travelling representative of the New Zealand Picture Supplies, and a stepson of Mr. Ben Fuller, has enlisted as a member of the Engineers,, and goes into camp in about a fortnight’s time. Mr. Burton, who is a very popular employee of the firm, is a champion pigeon shot. Mr. Herbert Bloy, the talented violinist, will not leave Wellington now as intended, arrangements having been made to retain him. The Wellington Professional Orchestra gave its last concert of the present season in His Majesty’s Theatre on Sunday evening. The programme selected was a really fine one, and included “Finlandia” (Sibelius), the overtures “Zampa” and “Maritana,” Mascagni’s “Intermezzo,” Massanet’s “Angelus,” Sullivan’s “Graceful Dance,” and Berlioz’s “Marche Hongrolse.” Mr. Herbert Bloy conducted in his usual able manner.
