Chakwana was very brilliant from the time she first started racing, but early last year four and a-half furlongs was thought to represent about her pet distance. This season she had shown good form, and on Saturday she cut out a merry seven furlongs by winning at Riccarton from a fair field of horses that have proved capable over similar and longer distances.
