TROTTING.

CANTERBURY NOTES. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) The handicapper has treated the Canterbury representatives at the Auckland Trott ng Club’s meeting rather favourably, and they look like pick.ng up a few races. Reggie Huon will take a lot of beating in the Electric Handicap, for he is a particularly smart colt. Now that James Bryce has taken Admiral Wood into his stable it is stated that St. Ursula will be transferred to A. Hendricksen’s stable to finish her preparat.on for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. The New Zealand Trotting Cup candidate Don Caesar is still being spelled, and it looks as if his trainer will have a difficulty in keep pg the brilliant son of Prince Imperial right for the big event. Admiral Wood was given a work out over two miles at Addington on Saturday morning having as companions Mandarene and St. Ursula. The latter broke badly and dropped right behind. Mandarene' led Admiral Wood t’ll half a mile from home, when the Cup favourite took up the running, and got home first by . half a dozen lengths. From a time standpoint it was rather disappointing, but it must be said in his favour tha* Adm’ral Wood had all the outside runn ng and finished well. Frandoc'a, Our Thorpe, Tommy C. and Albert H. were all given serviceable work on Saturday, and nothing went better -than Frandocia. who is in great heart just at present. AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. The Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting opens on Wednesday and concludes on the following Saturday. Judging' by the number of well conditioned horses being prepared at Alexandra Park the gathering promises to be a conspicuous success. Among the early- morning course watchers seen inspecting the various candidates at Alexandra Park was the southern st pendiary steward, Mr. J. W. Garrard, who leaves after the opening day’s racing for Canterbury. The acceptances for the meeting are satisfactory, both of local and visiting horses, but there were a few who expected longer starts. Mr. Mitchell, the caretaker of Alexandra Park, has made everything shipshape, and the lawns are at their best with the beautiful flower beds in full bloom. The racing track is in good order, and if it keeps fine some very fast times will be registered. Between 60 and 70 horses are with us at the Park now from all quarters. Visitors from Canterbury are Wallace Wood, Crompstall and Reggie H., members of M. Edwards’ team. Since the arrival of the Taranaki horses Joan of Arc, The Next and the sire Ch.ld Stone, they have not been making hard work of their track essays. Three-quarter pacing has been their daily’ port on most of the time. The Spring Handicap hardly- filled to expectat.ons, only eight being entered. F.ve have accepted, and Mintson may be the hardest the scratch horse, Wallace Wood, will have fb contend agajnst. If the highly’ strung Flora McKinney could be depended to run to her best she would keep the rest busy. Little Lady Rosier has been pleas.ng the early watchers, and her stable companion Belgium Queen has also been acquitting herself we 11..,. W. McMaster arrived from Helensville on Wednesday with Huon Patch, Doctor Chutney, Leo Huon and Master Ham. They look as if they have answ’ered their trainer's questions satisfactorily. The stable companions Resurrection and Kempsey have done all that has been asked of them. The former is in grand condition to see his races right out. Kirikiriroa has gone out of the favour of his former followers, having let them down so often, but the son of Atlas has freshened up wonderfully since his return from his unsuccessful southern trip. The young pacing sire Waverley was present at Alexandra Park on Thursday with the rest of T. Richards’ large string of trotters and pacers. The colt has filled out into a fair-sized horse and is brimful of quality. Two others of the same trainer’s team, Walnut and Reuben, have come on of late. The former was a bit tender a few days ago, but seems to have thrown off all soreness now. Belgium Queen, Futurity’ and Lady Rosier, under new management, seem healthy and well. They w’ere keeping the wheels revolving at a fa r rate during the past week and are expected to run well at the A.T.C. fixture. Master Park, Dick Fly, Ludski, Flora McKinney and Alf. McKinney are probably the most forward of the milers here? The Maiden Handicap division have been carefully looked after by- their respective trainers. W. Orange has Huia (late Rainbow) and Papatina doing good work at headquarters. Lord Lonsdale, a four-year-old byLonsdale from a Specification mare, is down for an engagement in the Mountain Handicap on the limit (16sec). He has not long been at the training track and looks a bit above himself. He also has a very high action and has not started s'nce the Wanganui Trotting Club’s annual meeting. So much ran has fallen at intervals during Monday night and Tuesday morning that the track is likely to be heavy. A few horses only arrive on the morning of the race. Amongst horses considered likely to get their names on the dividend paying list during the meeting are Hu’a, Belgian Queen, Mintson, Wallace Wood, Cathedral Chimes, John Dillon, King Capitalist, The Next. Master Park. Cromstall and Reggie Huon.
