MANIAPOTO.

A son of Soult and Lady Fisher, by Cuirassier from Lady Emmeline, by Somnus from Fanny Fisher, and a very distinguished member of the number 12 family is Maniapoto, who is still standing in the AVanganui district, where he has worked his way into prominence through sheer merit. His brilliancy as a racehorse was well known to dwellers on the Taranaki coast and in and Hawke’s Bay before he was taken to Australia, where he put up a time record for the Sydney Metropolitan Handicap over a mile and a-half, which eclipsed his New Zealand winning achievements. Maniapoto has proved himself a successful sire which is more to the point, and in Rewi Poto, Toa Tere and Encore, three of his 13 stake earners last season, he has left some good performers. The Fanny Fisher family has had so many good representatives in sire and female line that one would need to wade through the Stud Book and Turf Registers for the w’nners and winner producers. Hippocampus. Kingfisher, Isaac Torpedo, Piscatorious and Quilt all got winners, as did other sires of the line and everyone knows what a good family came from Miss Annie, dam of Antagonist, Cambrian, Annette, Lady Annie, Antoinette, Tetrazzini and Antiphone. The number 12 family is strong in the colonies, First King, Halderdier, Town Moor, The AVorkman, Tarcoola, Multifid and Maxim are some that occur to us. Oxford and Sterling in England and whose blood is so valued in the colonies were prominent members of the line.
