SURING MEETING. The Ashburton County Racing Club's spring meeting was opened on Thursday n fine though dull weather. The totalisator investments increased from £9050 on the corresponding day last September to £1 4.4 40 J Os. The results were: —■ FIRST HURDLE HANDICAP of 115 sovs, one mile and three-quarters.—-Commotion, 10.9, 1; Daylight Bill. 11.9,

2; Kingsway, 9.13, 3. Also started: Kilmeny 11.13, Glenowl 9.13, Grey Renown 9.2. Wen comfortably by a length and a-half, Kingsway being another six lengths behind. Time. 3min 14 4-ssec.

ASHBURTON COUNTY HANDICAP of 200sovs, one mile and a-quarter— Scotch Melody, 8.9, 1; Chrysotis, 8.5, 2; Fabrikoff, 9.0, 3. Also started: All Ready 8.9. The Cornet 8.2, Snapdragon 8.2. Won by a short neck, three lengths between second and third. Time, 2min 8 2-ssec. BRAEMAR WELTER HANDICAP of lOOsovs, seven furlongs.—Snub, 8.2, 1; Jeannot, 8.13, 2; Peg, 10.4, 3. LONGBEACH TROT HANDICAP of lOOsovs, one mile and three furlongs.— Ohapi, 12sec, 1; La Franz, lOsee, 2; Lucille 9-sec, 3. Also started: Rothann'.c scratch, Nordica Gsec, Oniako G sec, Joyful Ssec, Tokio 9sec, Wood Drift lOsee, Lyndhurst lOsee. Prinz 12 sec. Prinz was in front at tlie start, but fell at the live furlong post, and Joyful fell over him. Won by a length. Lucille was 50 yards away. Time, 3 min 19 2-ssec.

The winner asserted herself at the home turn, winning by three lengths. Time, Imin 14sec. CONCLUDING DAY. The meeting was concluded on Friday in line weather. The totalisator investments for the day were £12,216 (for eight races), as against £8768 (for seven races) on the corresponding day last year, while for the meeting the amount put through the machine aggregated £26 656 Ills., as compared with £l7 818 at the 1914 spring meeting. The net profits are to be devoted to the Patriotic Fund.
