AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club was held on Wednesday. The president, Mr. J. Rowe, occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, published last week, the president said that the club had experienced a successful year, and had, by discharging the second mortgage on Alexandra Park, substantially improved the club’s financial position. It had been found essential that this mortgage should be paid off. The improvements de-

cided on a year ago had been carried out, and the work was paid for out of revenue. The greater scheme which had been proposed would be launched when the club was in a better position. This scheme was rapidly becoming more necessary owing to the continuously increasing attendances. Proceeding, the president said that while the present time was hardly opportune for any large increase in stakes, the success which attended every meeting made it almost compulsory for the club to once more add to this item. He thought that by doing so, the increased number of visiting horses and added interest in the meetings would repay the club. The president expressed the hope that the club’s contribution to the patriotic funds would be very largely augmented during the year. Provided that the club’s financial results were as good as the past season, he would be surprised if the contribution did not reach well over the four-figure mark this year. Continuing, Mr. Rowe announced that the Racing Conference had approved of the desirability of appointing stipendiary stewards, and had set up a committee to draw up the necessary regulations for making the appointments. Mr. Rowe strongly advised the shortening of the limits, and the closer classification of competitors. The action of the various committees in this direction in the past had been one of the contributing causes of the success of the club. The president concluded by congratulating the club upon the success it had achieved. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: —Committee, Messrs. L. Cook, J. Rowe, J. G. Rutherford, J. Morrison, T. Buxton, and C. Bailey; stewards, Messrs. G. S. Lintott, E. F. Westbury, R. P. K’nloch, A. G. Mabee, A. Donald, W. J. O’Dowd, B. Grayson, and D. Wallace. Votes of thanks were passed to the president, secretary and press.
