GISBORNE.

Chortle Creates a Stir—Tatimi on Disabled List—Goldenlyte Pleases. (From Our Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Saturday. Mr. Brodie, M.R.C.V S., of Hastings, -was a visitor to the Bay this week for the purpose .'of operating on several horses and attending to the minor complaints of about twenty others. Amongst the number operated on was the brother to Multiply, Multiplication, and as an operation it must be considered highly satisfactory. Chortle created a stir here on Monday morning by getting over a mile over six iences in 1.48 with a good weight up. He promises to strip very well by the time August rolls around. Cally Bridge and Multitude are expected back from Hawke’s Bay next week, as both of them have proved untrainable. The former bled pretty badly last week and the latter has been fired all round and then won’t stand.

Tatimi broke down badly here on Saturday, and in consequence has been turned out for an indefinite spell, which must be considered bad luck for his owner, as he is a real sport. King of Athol has once more started to electrify the touts by his sensational gallops over short courses. Goldenlyte, by Birkenhead —Dazzle, is something out of the ordinary as a galloper. Last Saturday he reeled off three furlongs in 36sec. with a good weight up, going very easy, and as he is in a couple of maiden races here he should have no trouble in adding to his owner’s banking account. Considering the way he is bred it is no wonder he is good, as he claims relationship to such good performers as Maid of Astolat, Arc Light, Prospector, Goldfinder, California and Silverlyte, all brilliant horses over all courses.

Mr. J. H. Jefferd, who manages Messrs. WilTams’ racing affairs, received a cable on Monday from a prominent Victorian racing man asking him to put a price on Chortle and Multiply. Mr. Jefferd cabled back neither was for sale, as it is theSr intention to take both over shortly for jumping events after Multiply has been sufficiently schooled, as at present he is very new at the game. The son of Multifid will require a lot of schooling before he is fit to take his place in a hurdle race.
