OPERA HOUSE.
A good all-round bill is responsible for highly satisfactory attendances at the Opera House this week. Mr. Dan Thomas is again the headliner, keeping the audience more than amused with his inimitable character studies and female impersonations. In the latter he particularly excels, ..striking a note - of pathos as well as comedy in his fine portrayal of an old stage dancer. With his patter, h’s dancing and Hebrew songs he can hold the boards at will, and his turn is provocative of hearty laughter and enjoyment. Messrs. Vaude and Verne are back again and meeting with a great reception. They score bigger than ever with their original gags and never allow a moment to lag superfluous. A tip-top vaudeville turn is provided by the three Ruddles, two graceful girls and a third juvenile member in the guise of a gollywog. They go through some blood-curdling acrobatic feats w’th ease and get a big share
of applause. Mr. George Edwards and Miss Rosie Parkes make an attractive diversion in a musical and merry interlude. Misses Dormer and Lloyd, specialty artists and dancers, made their initial bow to Auckland audiences and were soon in favour. Substantial support is accorded by Mr. Tom Dawson, comedian; Courtney and Shaw, who take turn about in song and the piano; Carl Merlyn, mock magician, not to mention Archibald; and Mr. George Campbell, with his un’que juggling act. A special matinee will be held on King’s Birthday.
