NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION.

At the recent meeting of the N.Z. Trotting Association, correspondence was read from the Auckland Trotting Club, C. F. Giesen, and H. Gladding regarding the treatment of Messrs. Giesen and Gladding at the last meeting of the club. The chairman pointed out that the club’s course is private property, and the officials had every right to remove anyone they wished to. He did not think the letter from Mr. Giesen was a proper one in its reflections on the Auckland Trotting Club, and anyone holding a license had no right to make such reflections.

Mr. Barron moved: “That Messrs. Sheppard, Gladding and Giesen be requested to attend the next meeting of the board, and show cause why their licenses should not be withdrawn.” This was lost. It was resolved: “That no further action be taken, but that the association view with displeasure the behaviour of Messrs. Sheppard, Giesen and Gladding in the matter of the boycotting of the Auckland Trotting Club.”

The New Zealand Sports Protection League wrote stating that the question of granting permits to clubs such as the Halswell Sports Club, had been considered by the league’s executive, and Mr. C. P. Skerrett had been authorised to discuss the matter with the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The evidence taken by the Auckland Trotting Club at an enquiry into an accident at its autumn meeting was read. The club considered that J. Nicholson was the cause of the accident, and had decided that it would not in future recommend him to hold a driver’s license. The action of the club was endorsed.

An application for the removal of his disqualification was received from J. Troy, and was refused. J. J. Munro, of Gore, wrote for permission to be heard in favour of the removal of his disqualification. It was decided to accede to his request, and hear him at the next meeting of the board.

Licenses as recommended by the Licensing Committee were granted. The committee reported that E. J. Dwyer, holder of a license to. drive, ride, and train,, had been called on to show cause why his license should not be cancelled. The committee also recommended that no further license be granted to John Nicholson to ride or drive. The committee further recommended that the following sums be voted out of the Provident Fund in respect to recent accidents: —£20 ss. to E. Maidment £l5 2s .to W. R. Thomas, and £1 to John McKewen. The report was adopted. Programmes as passed by the executive were approved with a recommendation that the Westland Trotting Club should increase its stakes from £2BO to £350.
