FRENCH BOXERS AT THE FRONT.
The French sporting journal “L’Auto” contains interesting news of some of the French boxers who are, or have been, at the front. Edward Brochet, an ex-champion of France, who was at one time believed to have been killed, has just been promoted to the rank of adjutant, having previously been made a sergeant, and received the Military Medal for gallantry under fire. Adrien Hogan, wounded early in the war, has made a good recovery, and in a recent conversation expressed h'.s belief that he would be able to box again after the war. He may shortly return to the front, and is at present a corporal-instructor at the depot. Adolphe the lightweight, who was
wounded in the arm at the end of August last, is still in hospital. The condition of his arm makes it doubtful whether he will ever box again.
Georges Gloria was injured accidentally a couple of months back while driving a heavy car, but has now returned to the front. Eustache is understood to be in a hospital at Boulogne, but whether wounded or ill is unknown. Paul Bouvet, the middleweight, is a prisoner at Erfurt. Charles Ledoux, who has several times been reported among the killed, now a sergeant, has only just left for the front.
Albert Carpentier, the father of the European heavyweight champion, is among the wounded, he having been shot through the left foot.
