W. Olive’s Pair for Avondale Meeting—Toki Shows Promise on Loca! Tracks—Lord Ainsdale Turned out for Spell—Caher Davon Disposed of to Southern Buyer. (From Our Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Saturday. The failures of Birkline and Multifual at. Feilding, and Pacific Slope and Lady Alicia at Auckland proved costly to their followers down this way, where each of the quartette was solidly supported in their respective races. Ardfert and Ormoloid are to be shipped this week for Auckland, where they claim engagements at the forthcoming Avondale meeting. Both these horses should run well in events they start in, having done all their trainer, W. Olive, has asked of them. The successes of Multiply and Chortle at Christchurch and of Multiplicity at Waipukurau were anticipated by their connections, who benefitted to a considerable amount. Roderick (Multifid —Erin) was left at Hastings after the Waipukurau meeting, and goes into K. Quinlivan s establishment to be prepared for future events. Multiply’s full two-year-old brother, by Multifid —Lady Augusta, has been placed into W. Olive’s hands to be prepared for the early spring racing campaign. Toki (Multifid —Moura), owned by Sir James Carroll, is starting to show some galloping ability, judging by his deeds on the local track. He gives promise of being extremely useful later on. The Gazeley—Lady Ainsdale gelding Lord'Ainsdale met with an accident whilst being put into the horse box to be shipped to Napier, -and in consequence had to return home, where he is now turned out for a spell.
The Gienapp—Lady Augusta geld ing Caher Davon was disposed of last week to a southern buyer, and in future will do his racing on the Goldfields. The price was in the vicinity of 300 guineas, at which figure he is a bargain, and should soon return his purchase money. He is only young, has plenty of pace and is perfectly sound. The Multifid gelding Mulnix continues to astcund trackwatchers by the bold manner in which he flies his fences. Already several would-be buyers have asked for a price to be put on him, but his owner is not too anxious to dispose of the promising son of Multifid. Smilax is being hacked about the roads and is to go into work shortly, to be prepared for jumping events. Maryland, a Salvadan mare, is to be sent up to the Waikato for hunting purposes. As a racehorse she has proved untrainable, so her owner has decided to make a hunter of her.
