When Cartine won the All-aged Stakes at Randwick in 1890 the event was of 500sovs. value. It is now worth £2500. An owner with a good weight-for-age horse can now win a fortune in this class of race between Randwick and Flemington. Mr. E. J. Watt’s luck continues good in Australia. His three-year-old Mountain Knight, by winning the A.J.C. St. Leger, increased his winnings to just on £lO,OOO, placing him at the top of the winning three-year-olds, a little ahead of Radnor.
