On Thursday trainers had the choice of the tan, sand and inner grass tracks, the latter being a bit sodden after the previous night’s rain. Goldsize opened proceedings with a brilliantly run seven furlongs on the sand, the little chestnut registering 1 min 30sec for the journey. Glissando sprinted four furlongs on the sand in 52sec. Merry Roe easily held Castalia in a circuit of the r.ner grass, run in Imin 48 2-ssec.

Lady Elgiva ran the last six of seven furlongs on the sand in Imin 23sec. El Gallo and Bedford ran six furlongs on the sand in Imin 21sec. Waiorewa led Penroe and another on the grass over five furlongs in Imin 11 l-ssec.

Prince Soult, Soultikoff and Tragedy King ran home in this order on the grass from the three-quarters of a mile mark in Imin Msec. The former was carrying a lot more weight than his c ompanions.

Kitty Bellairs showed a lot of pace in a dash over three furlongs on the sand, registering 38sec. On the two-year-old rink King’s Courier ran five furlongs in Imin 7sec. A big chestnut named Moehoe got over four - of the big schooling hurdles, fencing slowly. Hauera, one of the fancied candidates for the Autumn Steeplechase, only put in easy pace work on Tuesday and Thursday. All eyes were focussed on the seven horses, Nat Lupin, Lady Sabretache, Maisonette, Vestal, Captain Jack. Maui Nina surprised the onlookers by defeating Phosphorus over seven furlongs in Imin 34 3-ssec, another good gallop. Lady Alicia downed Pacific Slope in a five furlong brush in Imin 8 2-ssec. Kitty Bellairs tripped over five furlongs from the the new post, in Imin 6 l-ssec. Toreador had Worcester well beaten at the end of five furlongs in Imin 9 2-ssec. Soultane beat Gold Necklet at the end of five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec Dandy Breeze had the best of Admiral Soult and Gloy in a round over the schooling battens. Nat Lupin, Captain Jack. Captain Pine, Hassan, and one of J Williamson’s hunters started at the sod wall Hassan came down at the first of the double. Nat Lupin stopped at the old water jump, while Captain Jack got rid of his rider at the water jump. It was an unsatisfactory exhibition. Black Northern was responsible for one of his circus performances, which was a bit diverting for the onlookers if not reassuring to his backers
