MOUNTAIN KNIGHT.

This good son of Mountain King has won in all five races, has been second five times, and has been unplaced four times in Australia, and it cannot fee said has raced too often. It would appear that despite his excellent achievements he has a soft spot, not that he lacks gameness, however. He will probably become more constitutionally solid as time wears on, but a hard race or two seems to e.ffect him for a time. He has won in place money approaching £9OOO, and is probably the best pur chase ever Mr. Watt has made in horseflesh, as he only cost 210 guineas at auction. The New Zealand horse owner can, and no doubt will, give the big son of Mountain King and La Veille plenty of time to mature fully and it would be pleasing to record a year or two hence that he had won as many races as other good ones, for there is no doubt he is good when right at his best. Weight-for-age form is sometimes very misleading, but when horses are trained for different distances as they are in Australia, where they

are sometimes raced at one meeting in mile and up to three mile events, it should not come as a surprise when the form is puzzling. It has often proved so in Australia when champions have been at work and in New Zealand in other parts of the world.
