Beale has leased the Soult —Waiora mare Waipoha 10 Mr. W. N. Gaisford. Waipoha, who has been out during three seasons, is still a maiden. Quinlivan is handling a rising two-year-old filly by All Black out of Muskerry. The youngster is bred the right way, and on looks should turn out profitable. H. Hickey has accepted the position of private trainer to the Gisborne sportsman Mr. F. D. Lysnar, who in times gone used to race under the assumed name of Mr. L. Furr. Hickey, with the exception of training Bodenham for Mr. J. H. Colebourne, will confine his attention to Mr. Lysnar’s team, which at present consists of the following horses: —Cally Bridge; Multitude; a two-year-old filly by Finland—War Talk, who is, therefore, a close relation to Bobrikoff, for the latter is by Finland, and War Talk is by Martian out of Bobrikoff’s dam; a two-year-old daughter of All Black and Bon. Bon —this latter mare being a half-sister by Boniform to Royal Scotch and Royal Arms —and the Eng-lish-bred Heather Mixture.

Royal Favourite, Sliding Form and. Forelight, who were previously under the direction of H. Hickey, are now being got ready for battle by T. Jones, who in years gone by used to act as mentor for the late Mr. G. E. G. Richardson and several other prominent followers of the sport in these parts. Rigo Park arrived at Greenmeadows last week, and has joined the forces controlled by A. E. Neale. Sweet Corn, Steinhall and Gold Painting are some of the members of the drone brigade at Flaxmere. Hikahakeke has been handed over to F. Lind to be put through the mill. Mr. W. Homes, of Rangitikei, has purchased from Mr. E. J. Watt All Blue, the coming three-year-old filly by All Black —Bluey, by Merriwee — Blue Water. All Blue was railed from Hastings to her new home this morning.

Mr. R. Te Hiangia, the well-known Waipukurau sport, has purchased Jem, delivery to be given after the Dannevirke meeting. Jem cost Mr. Hiangia 600 guineas, with a further 100 guineas if the son of San Fran gets the winning award in the Cup next Wednesday. The younger full-brother to Sauci (Charlemagne II. —Hope Diamond) has been sold by Mr. W. G. Stead to a supporter of the sport in the Commonwealth States. He is still running on Mr. Stead’s property at Flaxmere, but will be shortly despatched, across the Tasman Sea.
