SUMMER MEETING. FIRST DAY. The Poverty Bay Turf Club opened their summer meeting at the Makaraka racecourse on Thursday, the weather being perfect and the attendance constituting a record. The investments on the totalisator during the afternoon amounted to £12,414, as against £lO 262 on the opening day of last year, being an increase of £2152.
