ROTORUA JOCKEY CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING.
There was an attendance of nearly 2000 people at this meeting on Wednesday last. The weather was fine, and the totalisator turnover reached £6520 10s a record for the club, as against last year when £4639 was handled. Miss Livonia went out in front, and sticking to her work when the field closed up maintained her position, and finally won by nearly a length, Admiral Soult getting up to Lady Elgiva in the last few strides and making a dead heat for second, Parawai, Almeida, and Golden Grain finishing in order. Zulupin was smartest to begin from a good start, in which King of the Valley was slowest. Leading all the way Zulupin was just clear of Merrimax at the. turn, and in the run home when asked for an effort won by a length and a-half. two lengths between second and third. Tinopai got to the front along the back and led into the straight, but Admiral Soult, Lady Elgiva and Almeida were all at it in the straight, and Admiral Soult won by a length from Almeida who finished well and just beat Lady Elgiva, .who was clear of Tinopai. Mighty Atom led along the back well clear of Positive, who headed a wellbunched lot. Mighty Atom was still in front into the straight, but Positive came and caught him in the run home and won by a clear length, Marangai a. length and a-half away third, with Harenoa and Rosea next.
