ATHENIC AMISS.

A cable on Tuesday announces that Athenic, favourite for the Newmarket Handicap, pulled up lame on Saturday. It is stated that his trouble is in the vicinity of the fetlock. His trainer says that there is little hope of filling his Newmarket engagements. The horse has been scratched for the Doncaster Handicap.

The “Telegraph” says that Athenic’s lameness is sufficiently bad to realise the worst fears, and besides the horse’s withdrawal from the Doncaster Handicap, he has been struck out of all the Victorian engagements. Beau Soult has been withdrawn from the Newmarket Handicap.
