Dunn, ; a knight of the road, who passed through the town yesterday with his bluey. He called at the hotel in question and had a pint of beer to assuage his' thirst. Some time, after he had gone the bottles m question were discovered to be missing, and he was eventually seized upon as the culprit, having been the only individual in the bar during the momentary absence of the attendant. On his way to Piri .P.ri he had a grievous disappointment. He asked a person whom he met for a corkscrew as he had a bottle of whisky which he desired to refresh himself. The necesary implement of extraction was not forthcoming but the cork was pushed in with a knife, when the bottle was found to contain cloves. “That’s what they pushed on to me for 6s 6d,” remarked Delaney when he learnt the true contents of the bottle. — * * * The fact that the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., is spending a large amount of money in the construction of a magificent building in Suva, such as the Grand Pacific Hotel will be, is a good augury for the future of Suva as a tourist resort (says the “Fiji Times”), as it is well known that the company in question is controlled by the most astute of business men, who are not likely to invest money in white elephants. The new hotel is being con-
structed on a floating foundation, which means a raft of reinforced conefete under the entire structure, and in the building of this alone there is a nuge amount of work, and 100,000 yards of cement have been used. It is estimated that £13,000 has already been spent on the structure, and that when complete it will have cost £25,000. When finished the hotel will be in every way a model of luxury and comfort.
